Ex-Prisoner Receives John’s Gospel

November 27, 2010

A guy who came for food today had just done 2 years in Dartmoor prison and came out 3 weeks ago. During the conversation he said he had been visited by a Jehovah’s Witness while inside, although he hadn’t become a JW himself.

Although he had a Bible, I asked if he would like a John’s Gospel, as it was small and easy to carry around. He said yes he would, so I gave him one I got from Bridge Builders.

A Bitter ex-Roman Catholic

November 10, 2010

Chatted to a drinker on the streets today who told me he was brought up Catholic. He had nothing good to say about the priests who taught him. On the contrary, he told me how one priest who  regularly beat him was later taken to court for such actions. Two of his fellow young pupils were sexually abused by another priest, who would then take Mass a day or two later.

Although this guy still believed in a God, it was not the God of the Bible. He rejected the words of Jesus “you must be born again” when I quoted them.  He said “God forgives us all” so he saw no need to change his viewpoint.

What tragedies have been inflicted in the name of religion in this country and others!
