Offer Of Hope To Desperate Man

He was an ex-Army man and looked very active and fit, but as I chatted to him I discovered that life was in fact terrible for him.

His wife was suffering from severe mental illness and within the last week had walked on to the local motorway to try and kill herself.  The husband admitted he was at the end of his tether. Because of her dangerous and unpredictable behaviour he was getting hardly any sleep and didn’t know where to turn. He had tried to get her into secure accommodation, but with no success.

He seemed in a hopeless predicament and He confirmed to me that this was indeed the case.  

I picked up a little booklet we have for clients, called “Finding Hope”. I said: “even although you may not be a religious person, this is an encouraging booklet because it offers hope. He flicked through it and said: “yes, that looks good – I’ll take it”. The first pages begin: “If life is hard, if your whole world is broken, if it is hard to keep going………………………where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth” Psalm 121:1-2. Let this God of the Bible bring you hope”.

I went on to tell him that a comprehensive study of the different religions in the world identified the Christian religion as the only one that offered hope to its followers. He told me his wife liked reading, so I also give him another booklet called: “Thought and Prayers For Troubled Times”. He looked through it and said: “yes, I think she’ll read that.”

Later, I chatted to a guy with a major, painful knee problem requiring surgery. I told him of several cases I personally knew of where guys had been healed of knee problems after a short prayer. Despite me encouraging him to try it for himself, he said quite firmly: “no thanks!”. I said: “what do you have to lose – it’s only 30 seconds of your time?” All to no avail, so off he went with his pain and damaged knee.

I Asked God To Use Me – And He Did

 On the way into work I again asked God to use me, that it might be His Spirit at work – “thy will be done” – and not me striving in my own strength to accomplish things.

During my volunteer duty, in the background I heard a client say they had a leg problem. It turned out to be a lad of about 18, who had suffered problems with his left knee for about 4 years. The medics had not been able to cure his condition to date. I told him I’d seen lots of knee problems healed, and asked if he wanted me to pray for him. He was happy to give it a go, so I told him Jesus was the one who healed. I asked if he knew about Jesus of the Bible. He said he had been a Christian when younger, but had drifted away.

I laid hands on the knee, saying:”Father I thank you for Jesus. Jesus I thank you that you are the one who heals, and that you love this man and are drawing him back to yourself.” I spoke out healing, commanding the muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints and nerves to be healed in Jesus’ name. I spoke life and strength to the knee in Jesus’ name. Afterwards I asked him how the knee was. He checked it out and reported: “No change, it’s exactly the same.”

From experience I’ve learned that you keep on pressing in until results start coming. This of course is dependent on the person being agreeable to you continuing. I illustrated this to the guy: “suppose you had an infection, went to the doctor and he gave you tablets to take, two a day for fourteen days. If you took two the first day and threw the rest away, that would be silly, wouldn’t it?” He agreed that would be pointless. I said: “praying for healing is similar; you keep on going with the treatment then you will see results”.

I prayed again, in a similar vein as before. This time I was aware of the Holy Spirit flowing in me in a fairly powerful way. I mention this because many times I pray and see people healed but feel nothing myself while it’s going on. I asked him for an update. He said he could feel something moving down his leg, plus a tingling feeling. I told him that was God at work. I could feel the power flowing for a couple of minutes and he could too. I then asked him to check it out. He walked up and down and reported a significant improvement. I laid hands on him one more time. He reckoned the leg was a good 40% better at the end.

 I then told him the parable of Jesus where the shepherd left the 99 sheep on the hillside to go after the one that was lost. I said: “you’re the lost sheep, and God knew you’d be coming here today, so he planned this encounter to draw you back to Himself” He agreed that seemed quite a likely possibility. I gave him my card and asked him to let me know how he got on. I also gave him the gospel tract “No Satisfaction”.

 

Jesus Was Healing Again Today

A lady came in for food and while chatting she mentioned a weakness in her left hand and arm. She squeezed my hand with her left hand, and it was really strong. When she tried to do the same with her right hand it was very weak. I offered prayer and the laying on of hands. She was quite agreeable. The first time there was little improvement. After the second session she squeezed my hand and her grip was as strong as the other. She was pleasantly surprised! 

Later, a young guy was complaining of continuing pain is his right kneecap after an accident. I shared how the earlier lady had got her strength back. He agreed I could pray so I laid hands on the knee and commanded healing. First of all he said how peaceful he was feeling, and how enjoyable the experience was. After the first session he said there was a 75% improvement and he was happy with that. I said: “No, 75% is not good enough. Jesus gives 100% results” He said OK so I laid hands on him again and commanded healing again and for all pain to go. He then walked around the room and said “”Yep, no more pain – it’s 100% gone!”

After both healings I told them that the enemy may well try to put their symptoms back on them. If that happened, they should “resist the Devil” and command him to go in Jesus’ name.  If they did that they would have the victory. Both knew some Bible and I reminded them of how Jesus resisted Satan when he was tempted in the desert.

Arthritis Bows The Knee To Jesus

Out on the streets today I met a young man in his late 20’s who said he had arthritis and pain in his right knee. I told him we were offering prayer for healing and that I had seen lots of knees healed, so that was no problem.   

He sat down and we laid hands on his knee and commanded the pain to go and for the arthritis to leave his body. After a minute I could see a look on his face, so asked him “what’s going on?” He said he had a strange feeling in his knee that he couldn’t really describe, but something like a numbness.  He also reported that his level of pain had dropped from a 2 to 0.5.  He agreed that as “the mountain had started to move” we should get it to move further. After a further hands on session he reported all pain had gone. God is good.
